Contests

The EMWF is committed to providing a venue for unpublished or modestly published writers to showcase their work. Over the years, past contest winners have returned to the Festival as published authorsSit down at the keyboard or pick up your pen and get working on this year’s submission. Judges for The Fringe, the EMWF Literary Contest, and the Student Poetry Contests are eager to read your work.

The Fringe

Deadline: July 15th, 2016

Entry Requirements

  • Open to writers unpublished in book format and who have not previously read at The Fringe
  • Prose: Maximum 2500 words, double-spaced
  • Poetry: Three to five poems, maximum five pages, single-spaced.
  • Manuscripts must be in Arial (similar) 11-point font.
  • No images or coloured ink.
  • Submit 5 copies. DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR NAME OR CONTACT INFORMATION ON THESE COPIES.
  • Include a cover page with the title(s) or first line along with your name, mailing address, phone number and email address.
  • Submissions will not be returned.
  • Winners will be notified in August

Entry Fee:

  • $10 reading fee per entry.
  • Please no cash, make cheques payable to “Eden Mills Writers’ Festival”

EMWF Literary Contest

Deadline: Postmarked June 30, 2016

Open to new, aspiring and modestly published writers over the age of 16.

Contest Categories:

  • Short Story: Max 2500 words
  • Poetry: A poem or collection, no more than five poems
  • Creative Non-Fiction: Max 2500 words

Prizes:

The best entry in each category will winn a $250 prize. Winners will be invted to read a short selection from their work at the festival on Sunday, September 18, 2016.

Entry Fee:

  • $15 Canadian per entry, please make cheques payable to “Eden Mills Writers Festival”

Teen Poetry Contest

2016 Theme: Roads and Journeys

Deadline: June 30, 2016

Prizes:

  • 2 Grand Prize Winners of $50
  • 2 Runners-up of $25

One Grand Prize and one Runner-up prize will be awarded from each level: 

  • Jr. High (Gr. 9-10)
  • Sr. High (Gr. 11-12)

Contest Rules:

  1. Entrants may submit one poem (one-page maximum) each.
  2. Entries must contain 5 copies of the poem:
    1. Copy 1: Include your poem with your name, address, phone number, age, grade, teacher’s name and yours school’s name.
    2. Copies 2-5: Include only your poem with the title. Do not include your name. The judging is blind.
    3. Entries are confidential and non-returnable.

Contest open to residents of Canada only.
